An Original Oil Painting from Your Philmont Photo

I enjoy painting northern New Mexico scenes, especially those with a Philmont connection. I am always looking for new material and don't always get enough on my trips to New Mexico. So I am able to make the following offer to scouts and scouters returning from Philmont.

Get an original landscape painting for your home or office with a scene from one of your favorite Philmont photos. These paintings are suitable as a personal memento, as an appreciation gift to a Philmont trek leader, or as a graduation or Eagle recognition gift.

Style: The product will be an original work of art, a landscape painting in representational-impressionist style.

Subjects: Landscapes only; people or animals in photo will normally be omitted, except as incidental distant figures when they add interest to the landscape.

Materials: Hand painted oil on linen panel using only artist grade materials.

Delivery: Allow 3 months from order to delivery, 8 months for varnished paintings

Standard Dimensions: 8"x10"(about 14"x16" framed), 9"x12"(about 17"x20" framed); 12"x16" (about 20"x24" framed)

Reference Photos: As material for this work I will accept only uncopyrighted photos taken in New Mexico on a Philmont Scout Ranch expedition.

Prices:
8"x10" $150
9"x12" $178
12"x16" $262
plus actual shipping cost, includes suitable frame.

Selecting a photo for a painting: Here are some suggestions on selecting a Philmont photo suitable for a painting. First it should have something interesting: a rock, a tree, or view of mountains and sky. Second, it should have some good design elements such as strong contrast of light and dark, strong color contrasts, or depth with distinct foreground, middle ground, and background elements. Third, it is usually best to avoid spectacular scenes such as a sunrise, sunset, or mountain top panorama that just can't be fully captured in a photo or painting. Simple scenes often work best. Send several photos if you like and I will select the one that provides the best material for this work.
